Children Orthodontics
Children are typically assessed for orthodontic treatment aged between 9-12 years. However, certain types of tooth and jaw problems may require earlier intervention. Through an assessment at the age of 5-7 in my clinic, you’ll be giving your child the best opportunity for lifelong healthy teeth.
With orthodontic evaluations and treatment, we will be able to:
- Lower the risk of trauma to protruded front teeth
- Correct harmful oral habits e.g. thumb sucking
- Reduce the risk of plaque and food trap due to crowded teeth
- Guide jaw growth
- Correct cross-bites that can lead to facial asymmetric growth
- Guide permanent teeth into a more favorable position
- Create a more pleasing arrangement of teeth, lips and face
- Possibly reduce the need for further treatment when patients are older
Treatment usually takes 24-36 months. We are using a variety of brace appliances, including removable braces, fixed metal braces, or clear braces (Aligners). Often fixed brace treatment is started when all the permanent teeth have erupted. However, there are certain early interventions which may prevent or intercept more serious problems from developing and may make treatment at a later age shorter and less complicated.

Aligners (clear braces) are a fantastic solution for children and adults who have mild to severe crowding and wish to have straight teeth in a short period of time. The innovative treatment consists of clear plastic braces that gradually move your teeth until they are properly aligned. When on, they are almost undetectable. In my clinic, we will create a series of customized aligners to ensure that they fit comfortably and move your teeth properly.
